Derivative stuff. #3 is a direct copy of a figure in John Willie’s Sweet Gwendoline cartoon, The Missing Princess (p. 27). #8 and #10 borrow from the same source (pp. 5 and 31), while #1 was very likely inspired by the p. 9 depiction of U69 leading Gwen to Auntie’s doorstep.

#6 in Gallery 2 derives from a frame in the 1958 complete version of “Sweet Gwendonline” And The Race For The Golden Cup. #9 mimics a well-known picture by Eric Stanton in which a male figure is tightly lacing the maid’s corset from behind.

#6 in Gallery 1 rips off Stanton’s cover for Escape Into Bondage Book II:

#8 imitates one of Stanton’s illustrations for the 1953 serial Bound In Leather (p. 14). And so on.

    • You have an astounding memory for detail.

      Here is the likely culprit!

The episcope was a blight to some – and a dream come true for others. Creators of original art studied and practiced lifetimes to master their art, while the ‘episcopers’ could merely shorthand all that by hijacking the images. The shame was in passing these second-rate forgeries off for profit (however negligible).

However, I have a tiny bit of sympathy for this type of ‘artist’. Imagine seeing images one’s whole life, wishing one had the talent to recreate such, but with the slight variation of kink that one would prefer, but knowing full well one could not. What to do? Personally, I don’t know how many hours I spent painstakingly tracing images from magazines and comic books (albeit vanilla images transmogrified within the chambers of my imagination) and altering them to be FemDom BDSM cartoons, until I developed the skill to fly on my own.

Someone once said, “All art is stealing”. However, as we know, the difference between homage and blatant plagiarisation is definitely a huge issue. I’m grateful for folks such as Bibliophile who can spot the forgeries and call them out. That being said, I’d wager John Willie is perhaps the most ‘borrowed upon’ BDSM artist in history.
